Shop Plug & Update

by ramhog on 4th Jul 2022, 5:35 PM
Hi everyone! I relaunched my online shop to clear out some inventory before SPX (I'm tabling at SPX. I forgot to mention that here. So. I'm saying it now) which includes a few niche sticker packs I'm retiring and a couple zines. One of the items for sale is a bundle of the original prequel comics for this comic! It's only 3 bucks and I'm not charging shipping so if you want to know about how Violet got into this mess, check it out! Since it's the origins of this comic, there's a few inconsistencies with what the webcomic turned into, but its canon!

I'm also posting some worldbuilding comics on the socials that I completely forgot to cross-post to here, so I'll be posting those and queuing up the new ones so y'all won't miss out on anything. Unfortunately I don't have an idea as to when I'll be able to pick the comic back up yet, but y'all will be the first to know.

Thanks as always for hangin' out! Talk soon!

THINNING Post Mortem

illo for Earth Day 2022

Hi! Thanks once again to everyone who supported the making of Chapter 2, especially my partner Jay, those who supported my Patreon in the past, and everyone who's told a friend about the comic. This is very much a personal endeavor for me to exorcize my climage change anxities and it's been cool seeing people respond to it. I'm taking a break now since towards the end of Chapter 2 I was having a hard time balancing real life work with working on it and know I have a lot of prep to do for future chapters. Thank you for your patience.

I wanted to write a brief post mortem on this chapter for two reasons: For the real life issues touched on in THINNING I referenced a lot of articles which I would like to share with you here as extra curricular material, which I will link below. Second, I wanted to speak briefly on how I very obviously did not touch on the very real wildfires in the nearly year round fire season that California, Oregon and Washington experience now. This comic, for reasons I cannot exactly remember, starts in 2011. If you pay attention to the way I number the photos in Violet's camera roll on the reports, I put real dates in there that are the canon days where certain events happen. The horrifying conditions that the West Coast experiences during fire season hadn't quite started by the time this comic takes place. I wish I could point to a place to donate to that would help combat these fires, but truly climate saving action is the only thing we as individuals can do at this point along with supporting mutual aid funds in the area. Check out this map and donate or get involved with any of the mutual aid funds listed in the PNW if you can.

Now for the arciles/resources/references I used, especially when writing the report:
Wildfires fueled by climate change threaten toxic Superfund sites
Invasives Database: Cheatgrass
Opinion piece: Wildfire prevention deserves long-term, dedicated, continuous funding
Fire Adapted Communities page

If anyone has any questions or comments or further resources you think I'd might like I'd be happy to talk to you!- given that they're not about things that will be explored further down the road in this comic. There's still a lot to wade through here.

Site Update

by ramhog on 9th Aug 2021, 11:18 AM
Hey everyone,

Just spent this morning re-organizing some links and queing up more pages. I have updates prepared for y'all through November 3rd (!!!) as of today, so look forward to that. If you can't wait, please support this comic via Patreon to have access to those pages early and more bonus content.

I also finally sat down and made a climate resources page. It's always going to be very work-in-progress as there's a lot of material to sort through out there. I'll stay on top of updating links, but if I miss something please feel free to reach out. I'm genuinely wearing my politics on my sleeve for this comic since, well, it's literally a comic about climate change and supporting environmentalist causes, and the themes it will be exploring especially down the line are also about political action. Especially since I'm posting this the day of the IPCC climate report, things are getting exponentially worse. Now is not the time to shut down or disengage. I'm not an expert on these topics and did not start this comic to become one, but as I work on it I learn more and feel more passionately about the topic. I'm not interested in debating- I'm interested in action.

Thank you as always for reading. <3

Welcome to the new(est) Cross Pollinated home!

by ramhog on 17th Jun 2021, 9:02 AM
I've been meaning to make a 'proper', "classic" webcomic site for the comic since the only two places I upload right now are in batches. Some people have told me it's a little confusing, plus some prefer to read one page at a time instead of scrolling, so this is the new spot I'll be pointing everybody to! I'll still be mirroring to Webtoon and Tumblr just to cover all my bases, but I want to invest the most effort into this site.

This site is very much still WIP since I am a one-man-band of making this thing- all of the pages/transcripts are now up to date and my next step will be making pages for the about and cast list. If anyone is reading using a screen reader, please let me know if the transcriptions are best kept in the author's note or if it needs to go somewhere else that would work better.

You can reach me at Twitter or Tumblr @crosspollinated. More links to come once I get my pages up! Thank you, as always, for reading.
